Former USA World Cup National Team Player and Host of Fox Soccer Channel Joins PSV Union FC Staff.
We are pleased to announce that Christopher Sullivan has joined the PSV Union coaching staff. Christopher has been well known to the Ireland family as a teammate and coaching partner and close family friends since 1990. His knowledge and ability, including his physical ability to demonstrate and thereby illustrate the material he coaches fits perfectly with the clubs philosophy of providing the best possible visual motivation for any young player eager to learn and enhance their game at the highest technical levels. Coupled with a deep appreciation for and understanding of world class tactical and physical excellence, the addition of Christopher to the coaching staff is a perfect fit.
Christopher was considered one of the best players to come out of the USA; playing in Germany, France, Denmark and Hungary- An extremely technical, creative midfielder, blessed with world class speed with the ball at his feet he unfortunately missed out on the World Cup 1994 selection to to family illness. He was a member of the 1990 U.S. World Cup team vs Italy in Rome in 1990 & pre-World Cup 1994 squad. Christopher left the game twice for personal family issues then returned to MLS playing for the San Jose Earthquakes. After retiring he played locally for El Farrolito, winning many Northern California Championships and was considered one of the best ever players to play in Northern California.
As a coach, Christopher has run many clinics, camps and coaching sessions for World Soccer, PSV Union FC and many clubs, teams and players throughout the country since retiring from the National Team in mid-90's. He is considered by many to be one of the top trainers in the country and has helped train and place players in NCAA college soccer.
Christopher also founded his own mens' soccer team which featured several USA Mens National Team Players (Thomas Silvas, CJ Brown) and also current PSV Union FC staff members Gary Ireland & Peter Horvath (now Ujpest in Hungary). Christopher shares the PSV Union philosophy that creativity and excellence through technique and a high level of tactical and technical appreciation combined with a rare understanding of technical/physical and tactical tempo change and rhythm are the keys to enjoyment and ultimately success in the game.
Christopher remains one of the most respected and influential figures in US soccer. He has been a member of FOX Soccer Channels commentary team for the past 3 years providing his unique and insightful commentary on various club and international matches on FSC including US Men's National World Cup Qualifiers and the MLS game of the week.
He is also regularly consulted by MLS owners, coaches, players and foreign professionals on various subjects related to players, coaching and the commercial aspects of the global game.
