'Small Group Sessions' are open to all PSV Union FC players seeking to improve various aspects of their game in addition to regular team practice sessions and games. SGS allows our coaches to further develop players technical skills (how to do it) as well as tactical implementation (when and where). These sessions rarely allow for game play as these are supplementary sessions for players already getting considerable playing time with their own clubs/teams in games and trainings. Our main focus is to help players improve ball mastery/comfort on the ball which develops confidence and leads to better decision making and improved movement off the ball.
Format:
Progress can best be made with consistent and regular practice attendance and a focus on building upon skills and techniques learned each week. If players are unable to sign up for the whole season, we may be able to arrange a modified schedule. Players may be grouped according to age and ability. Much of the material all players need to work on so its not uncommon to find players grouped a few year apart as the sessions are not designed for players to compete with one another so age and level of play is not a relevant factor in grouping. Individual technical development/training should not be confused with athletic prowess/age. There are many smaller/younger players who are as good, if not better than older, bigger players who have may have missed out on technical development when they were younger. Because the players are not competing in practice with one another, the main area of focus is individual development.
Locations:
Greene Middle School or Mayfield Soccer Complex, unless stated otherwise.
Duration:
1.5 hours of actual training. Players should arrive 10 mins prior to prepare and remain 10 mins after to cool down.
